Tascam Model 12
Hello Folks

Thanks to be Confirmed as a Member of the Forum ! :)

i Have a Question:

Is it possible to Control the Full REC/Stop/Rewind Buttons somehow ?

It would be a HUGE Plus for me to Make new Takes of a Track and don’t Need to be Directly on the Mixer .
I Read that Its only possible to Punch in or Start and Stop .. but i Need to be Able to do all the Buttons with Easy steps .
I Hope you know what i mean … Or can i Put 2 Footswitches on it somehow.?
Just warnt to arm my Tracks and work Gully from another Place away from the Mixer Till the Takes Are Right :-)

thank you very much in Advance !

Greetings from Cologne ,

Has anyone actually got a dual footswitch working on the Model 12? I purchased a dual momentary footswitch and only one function works occasionally, I've tried all the combinations of settings. There does not appear to be any recommended dual footswitch.

@Hamish,
making a remote footswitch controller out of a dual momentary push-button is a simple thing, provided one button is connected between tip and sleeve (Switch 1) and the other between ring and sleeve. Assign switch roles and polarity (normally open or normally closed according to your buttons) in menu SYSTEM > FOOTSWITCH and you are done. As a quick test I connected a TRS patch cable to the Footswitch socket and used an alligator cable to emulate the switches with no issue. If you get unsuccessful or inconsistent results with your footswitch it is likely defective, not fully compatible with the Model or not connected correctly.

Thanks @Max Relic, Glad to hear it's worked for you. I'll disassemble the footswitch I have and I'll check/resolder all the connections.

Welcome @Thomas Klinteby ,
the Model 12 supports two footswitches at the same time via TRS jack, you can use a standard Tascam or another brand compatible footswitch or build your own stomp-footswitch. The table of assignable functions is on page 56 of the manual.
I know this is an old thread but you seem knowledgeable so I'll ask here. I can't seem to get 2 footswitch working, I tried the FS7 in all configs and it only gives one command same on both a & B, I even tried 2 piano foot switch connected via 2 TS to 1 TRS cable and it still doesn't work. I don't understand anymore. I'm starting to doubt the TRS cable joiner. Have any ideas ? thanks

@Max Power did you assign a different action to each switch?
Anyway. The FS-7 "manual" says it can be used without connecting an AC adapter: just set MODE to FS-5U and POLARITY to "I", then run a TRS-TRS cable from jack "B" to the Model 12 footswitch jack.
Let us now if it works for you.

Thanks for the reply, yes both have different actions in T12, both normally open, polarity ''I'' on the FS7. It must be the joiner TRS cable I have. I am waiting for a TRS to TRS cable to try that out directly from FS7 to T12. (I just tried it with a TRS cable I found, it works !!) I'm dumb. It was the cable, TRS to TRS is all good.

Thank you !

Glad you are happy now, have fun with your equipment!
Take in account that footswitches must work in temporary (i.e. non-latched) mode. Use a TRS-TRS cable with no adapters/converters/splitters between the pedal and the Model.
If you want to investigate at a deeper level, use a Digital Multi-Meter to check continuity respectively Ring to Ground and Tip to Ground while pushing the switches.

New reply to this old thread:

I purchase the cheap $18 Hotone Dual Foot Switch off Amazon. I think most "momentary" foot switches will work with the Model 12. I use it for start/stop and punch-in recording/overdubs. It works great. It comes with a short TRS cable, but I recommend a much longer one if you need any distance between you and your recorder.

Thanks for adding your experience, @davidp158. I recently tested the DigiTech FS3X triple-footswitch with success. For those non familiar with triple footswitches on TRS cable, it's worth noting that apart the usual switches Tip-Sleeve and Ring-Sleeve there is a third momentary switch between both Tip and Ring to Sleeve. The latter isn't of much use on the Models but Tascam could take it in account for future firmware update.

Great suggestion Max!

My wish would be for a firmware update to allow for recording multiple takes, between two marks, and then to be able to choose which take to use (probably from the menu)...

(By the way, the issue with the footswitch was my brain, I didn't know enough about balanced signals and TRS cables, with the right cable it worked fine... )

My DP-32 does this, no-touch/automatic (by using [AutoPunch] with [Repeat] engaged). Saves every take as a VT.

It’s an ossum tool.👍
