Hi there . . Neil from a wet and rainy Stoke-on-Trent, UK here. I know is an age old question, but I'm hoping someone could answer the novice question for me . . . not just in terms of specs, but if anyone has actually used the MX-2424 with -10Db inputs and outputs?
I've got an MX-2424 running with MXview on an old PC running XP 32bit . . and its working fine. I've also got an old classic Studiomaster Mixdown24 Mixer desk with 24 channel Direct Outs/Tape returns . . which I'd really like to pair with the MX-2424. The trouble is . the StudioMaster desk only has TS in/out jacks . . . giving and receiving signal levels at -10Db.
I'm asking because the desk is a complete monster to move about (and has been stood up on its end in my home studio waiting set-up for quite some time) and as I'm disabled, I could really do with some assurance (or otherwise) on whether its worth the effort. I can see from the Owners Manual that the MX-2424 has fixed +4Db analogue inputs/outputs at the DB25 plugs. So I've got two questions . . .
1 - if I were to get x8 TR jacks on the other end of the Tascam wired DB25 plug/lead . . . would the MX-2424 be able to accept and cope well with the -10Db output of the desk?
2 - As the desk has a 20Db cut on each input channel, is the MX-2424's output (at +4Db) going to be OK (do you think) at the tape return inputs (with the 20Db if necessary)?
In short . . . the StudioMaster was designed when -10Db was the multi-track tape standard (ADAT era). . . is it just not gonna work very well with the MX-2424?
Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers
