FW-1884
Everything works but...

Loud white noise when using WDM and ASIO at the same time.

Is there any fix? I had this issue in windows 10 too but not on snow Leopard and windows 7

Right now I'm setting Windows sound to play with built-in audio patch cable to available channels on fw-1884

I've tried both legacy driver and without legacy (Clean install windows)

It seems like Without legacy driver works more stable

How did you get it to work in W11? Did you just do the same as is recommended for W10 by Deering? Or something special? Please help out an old Fw-1884 user.

BTW in W10 I have often run across the white noise problem in W10 I think it was bc of using different rates (44.1k 16bit on comp system and 48k 24 bit for recording ASIO) but I could be wrong.

I had been wondering if anyone has got the Tascam FW's working with Windows 11 out of curiousity ...either the Tascam FW 1884, 1082 or the 1804, which I have all three.

I am currently running one of my Tascam's at a time on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with Cubase 8.5 Pro. I really don't see a need to use Windows beyond 7 Pro 64 bit for myself.

An old treat... but just worth mentioning I'm using our lovely old FW-1884 in Windows 11 and Cubase Pro 13. So far so good. If someone need details, feel free to ask... but a couple of hints are: 1) DO NOT use the Legacy Driver mentioned in several guides and needed in previous Windows versions. Do not install any 1394 driver at all. Use the one coming included in Win 11 as long as you have a TI (Texas Instruments) chip firewire card. Mine is a NO NAME brand connected into a PCI-E x1 slot, with at least one 6-pin connector. You should only use a 6-pin firewire cable to connect to the FW-1884. 2). And second hint is to disable the core isolation memory integrity from Device Protection in Windows Security... the 3rd obvious hint is to change (right click) the properties of the FW-1884 install and then (once installed) the Control Panel of the FW-1884 to execute it in Win 7 compatibility mode, but this have been repeatedly mentioned over here.

Hi @PereR ! Hope you're doing great! I recently bought and old FW-1082 but I can't figure out how to make my Windows 11 to connect with Tascam. I have the same "no name" firewire card connected into the PCI-E x1 of my Asus motherboard and it works perfectly with my RME Fireface 800. The only thing that my card have only Firewire 800 ports, not the 400 ones. So I bought a FW 400 to 800 cable and it works perfectly with the other FW 400 port of my Fireface 800. But I don't know if this could be the problem. Any thoughts about this?

Hi man,

I never used other cables than 6 pin Firewire 400 with my Tascam FW-1884. So, can't confirm if using FW 800 cables/connections could be the source of your problems. Fyi, I use a PCI firewire card with Texas Instruments chipset.

Exactly this one...

Got that same PCI firewire card working perfectly with my FW-1884 in my previous Windows setup without any issues. But as mentioned, always using exclusively 6 pin FW 400 cables and connectors.

Hope it helps my friend.

Kind regards,

Pere
