2488 mk ll

Read sections 10 and 11 of the manual. (We're assuming you can read, of course:LOL:).
If you're unable to make the described USB connections, you should consider the possibility that one or more of your 2488, the computer you're using, or the USB cable are not functioning properly.

It's been a while since I ran 2488's (I had all 3 incarnations) - but IIRC, you can't simply drag 'n drop - I recall it's a sort of complicated process whereby you move files/trax to the '88's FAT partition, THEN move them around. Something about the '88's using an internal format/protocol that's not the same as a regular computer (hence you have to convert files/trax to the FAT partition before moving/copying/backing-up/restoring...)

That does sound like somethin' ain't right - either a malfunction, or perhaps some sort of incompatibility of formats/systems/whatever?!?

As mentioned before: I do recall that the transfer process on an '88 was supremely/inanely complicated...including commands to be executed ON the '88 before stuff was in the FAT partition, to be detectable on the puter...

Another thing that might be helpful is to ensure that your '88 is running on the latest version of firmware (it's possible it was updated to comply with protocols from newer O/S's?).
OR: perhaps try to access the '88 with another puter (perhaps an older O/S)?

That said...I'd be pretty happy if my puter would "smile" at me. Most of the time it points and laughs at how stewpyd I am compared to it...
